For your final project in this class, you are going to be dealing with Brand Identity. For this project you are given the option of branding a restaurant or you can choose what you want to brand. This needs to be a tangible thing that you are branding. You will be placing a logo on the product as well as designing multiple printed media to accompany the product.
Branding: Why is it important? Always remember that people tend to choose products based on their perceived value rather than their actual value. This can be seen especially in "Car Branding." Why do people choose to buy cars like Lexus vs Scion? It is because Lexus's brand identity focuses on luxury and status. Successful branding starts with the client. It's a matter of getting into the client's head and finding out what they want. So often we judge books by their covers and this is why the perceived value of a service or product is usually greater than the actual one.
Elements for an Iconic Design:
1. Keep it simple: The simplest resolution is often the most effective. Simplicity helps a design be more versatile. Adopting a minimalist approach enables your logo to be used across a wide range of media, such as business cards, billboards, and even small website favicon's. Simplicity also makes your designs easier to recognize, making it more likely to stand the test of time and endure in a world that is constantly changing. Ex: FedEx, Samsung, BBC.
2. Make it relevant: Your logo must be appropriate for the business, product, client, and audience it identifies. Keep in mind, though, that a logo doesn't have to go so far as to literally reveal what the company does.
3. Aim for distinction:
For Part 1, you will be designing the logo for your particular product. The logo is the most important part of your Brand Identity. Everything else you design will be based off of this logo.
