What is a Call to Action?
A CTA is an invitation for your visitor to take the next step. It asks the visitor to make a move toward building a relationship with your business (in this class, your charity or cause you want to make aware). CTA's can be concrete ("Click Here!") or more open-minded ("Let us hear from you!").
Why are they important?
Consider this: A potential customer or donor is looking on your website or at your poster that you have created. They get to the very end of it and what next?? They look for somewhere else to go. If you as a designer have done your job correctly, then they will want to stay on your site or continue to seek more information about your poster.
Remember, CTA's are not always used to just get a customer to buy something or give you money. That is a very concrete way to use a CTA. In the case of working for a non-profit organization, a CTA could be used as a way to really stress the importance of what you are trying to bring awareness to.
For part 1 of this project, you are asked to design a CTA/Logo. Make your CTA stand out. Don't just have boring text. That won't grab anyone's attention. Instead, try to focus on transforming your text into something more. You can add imagery to the CTA to have a mixture between a word phrase and a logo; you can even turn your CTA into the logo itself. Be creative! Have fun!
Due dates:
Tuesday September 2nd - have something already started in Illustrator. We will be having a group show and tell to help each other fix any necessary problems you might be having.
Thursday September 4th - this will be a revision day. I want you guys to really be solid with your CTA/Logo's. This is a day for you to make any necessary changes and make sure you are ready for critique on Friday.
Friday September 5th - Critique Day! Have your work finished before class. This is not a work day. We will start class immediately at 2:00 and get right into the group critique.
Keep up the good work guys!!!
